The Pepperl+Fuchs Smart-Ex 03 DZ1 Camera Only Version is a camera-limited configuration of the Smart-Ex 03 platform for use in Zone 1 gas and Zone 21 dust hazardous areas. It is designed for customers who require hazardous-area image capture on the Smart-Ex 03 hardware platform, but do not require the full smartphone functionality.
Unlike the standard Smart-Ex 03 DZ1 smartphone, this version is supplied in Camera Only mode. The manufacturer datasheet states that kiosk mode limits the device to the camera function only, with phone functions deactivated at software level and access to phone functions not possible.
The Camera Only version is also supplied with Wi-Fi deactivated. SIM card slots are physically present, but are not functional because the phone functions are deactivated at software level. No hardware modifications are made to the Smart-Ex 03 camera solution.
This makes the product relevant for users who specifically want the Pepperl+Fuchs Smart-Ex 03 platform for restricted camera use, but where a fully enabled hazardous-area smartphone is not the preferred option. For users who require normal smartphone capability, app workflows and connectivity, the full Smart-Ex 03 DZ1 Smartphone remains the more appropriate product route.
The device includes a 13 MP main camera with LED flash, 128 GB internal memory, Android 15, IP68 protection and MIL-STD-810H ruggedness. It should be viewed as a specialist Camera Only configuration within the Smart-Ex 03 family, rather than a replacement for Able’s main ATEX camera range.
