Dwyer Series 16B Dual-Loop Temperature and Process Controller
Control temperature or analogue process variables with a compact 1/16 DIN controller, dual-output heat/cool control and standard RS-485.
Key highlights
- Format: 1/16 DIN with two control outputs
- Inputs: Thermocouple, RTD, voltage or current
- Control: On/off, PID or manual
- Programming: Up to 64 ramp/soak steps
- Integration: RS-485 Modbus ASCII/RTU standard
The Dwyer Series 16B is a compact 1/16 DIN temperature and process controller with one universal measurement input and two hardware control outputs. DwyerOmega’s dual-loop arrangement assigns the outputs to heating and cooling around the same process value and setpoint; it is not a two-input controller.
The universal input can be configured for supported thermocouples, Pt100 or JPt100 RTDs, or compatible DC voltage and current signals. Dual four-digit LED displays show the process value and setpoint for clear local operation.
On/off, PID and manual output control cover common regulation duties. Automatic tuning supports PID setup, while the separate ramp/soak programme provides up to 64 steps for processes that require controlled setpoint changes over time.
Output hardware is selected with the model. Output 1 can be specified as a 14 VDC voltage-pulse, relay, 4-20 mA or 0-10 V output; output 2 is a relay in the standard model combinations. RS-485 with Modbus ASCII or RTU is standard, while the supply is selected as 100-240 VAC or 24 VDC.
The Series 16B suits ovens, boilers, chillers, environmental chambers, hot plates, melt pots, packaging equipment and compatible process-control duties. Selection should account for the input signal and range, heat/cool assignment, output hardware and load, alarm use, supply and panel installation.
Key Features
- Universal input: Configure the controller for a supported thermocouple, RTD or analogue process signal
- Dual-output heat/cool control: Assign outputs 1 and 2 to heating and cooling around one measured process value and setpoint
- Control choices: Select on/off, PID or manual output control for the required regulation duty
- PID tuning: An automatic tuning function helps establish PID parameters for the application
- Ramp/soak programming: Build up to eight patterns of eight steps for a maximum of 64 programmed steps
- Model-selected outputs: Match relay, 14 VDC voltage pulse, 4-20 mA or 0-10 V hardware to the interface and load
- Alarm flexibility: Dedicated alarm relay, with output 2 available for an additional alarm function when not used for dual-output control
- Standard communications: Integrate through RS-485 using Modbus ASCII or RTU
