OMEGA FLR1600/FLV4600 Low-Flow Liquid Meters and Controllers

Choose measurement-only or closed-loop control for low flows of pure, clean DI or distilled water.

Key highlights

  • Function: FLR measures; FLV regulates flow
  • Medium: Pure, clean DI or distilled water
  • Family ranges: FLR to 10 L/min; FLV to 5 L/min
  • Performance: ±2% FS accuracy; 50:1 turndown
  • Interfaces: LCD, analogue and serial connectivity

OMEGA FLR1600 and FLV4600 are paired low-flow water instrument families built around differential-pressure measurement across a laminar flow element. They provide a consistent platform for applications that need either measurement alone or automatic regulation.

FLR-1600A models measure volumetric flow and provide local indication of flow and temperature. Analogue and serial signals allow measured values to be passed to compatible control, recording or data-acquisition equipment, while an optional pressure sensor can provide an additional measured parameter.

FLV-4600A models add closed-loop control. An integral normally closed proportional valve and PID loop compare the measured flow with the selected setpoint and adjust the valve to regulate the process. Valve size, available pressure, back pressure and power requirements must be considered with the required range.

The measurement principle depends on the known temperature-viscosity relationship of water. Media selection is therefore deliberately narrow: pure, clean DI or distilled water only. Tap water, minerals, oils, biological contamination and viscosity-changing additives are outside the verified application envelope.

FLR standard full-scale ranges extend from 0.5 mL/min to 10 L/min, while FLV standard control ranges extend from 50 mL/min to 5 L/min. Final selection should account for function, full-scale range, valve size, pressure drop, filtration, process connection, mounting, supply and the required analogue or serial interface.

Key Features

  • Laminar measurement: Differential pressure across a fixed flow element provides a linear volumetric-flow response without moving sensing parts
  • Measurement-only option: FLR-1600A reports water flow and temperature without an integral control valve
  • Closed-loop option: FLV-4600A combines the flowmeter with a normally closed proportional valve and PID regulation
  • Local interface: Integrated display and touchpad show process values and support device setup
  • Fast response: Typical adjustable response is 20 ms for meters and 100 ms for controllers
  • Signal choice: Select standard 0-5 VDC and RS-232 or compatible analogue, secondary-output and RS-485 options
  • Range-matched hardware: Process connection, pressure drop, body size and controller valve depend on the selected full-scale range
  • Useful options: Pressure sensing, totalisation and portable FLR configurations are available subject to model compatibility
