XSENS XACT Clamp-On Water Cut Meter
Non-intrusive, clamp-on water-in-oil measurement from 0–100%
Able Instruments are XSENS’ official UK representative for the XACT Clamp-on Water Cut Meter, the first ultrasonic water-in-oil solution capable of measuring 0–100% water cut externally from the pipe with a remarkably high accuracy of ±1% absolute. Developed in collaboration with leading acoustic researchers at the Christian Michelsen Research Institute in Norway, the XACT Water Cut Meter combines patented Speed of Sound (SoS) sensing with advanced temperature compensation modelling. Using multiple ultrasonic transducer paths, the system reads liquid properties through the pipe wall, enabling continuous, real-time monitoring of water content in oil without needing to contact the fluid.
The XACT system offers a true clamp-on design, requiring no pipe cutting, spool sections, or shutdown for installation. Operators can deploy the meter in just 2–3 hours, even on live pipelines, and without needing straight pipe lengths or static mixers – a major advantage over traditional microwave or capacitance-based inline water cut meters. This external design provides a 20+ year operational life with no clogging, corrosion, leaks, or effects from process fluids, wax, scaling, or erosion.

Built for upstream, midstream, and downstream environments, the meter is certified for Zone 1 and 2 hazardous areas and is suitable for oil production, separator control, produced water handling, custody transfer, and tanker offloading. It fits pipe sizes from 1.5” to 36” as standard, with larger options available on request.
